Summer Reading Ratings

Although The Crucible (2 stars) is an interesting read, it would certainly never be my first pick. There were many characters to keep track of the writing was stilted which makes comprehension difficult.

The Scarlet Letter (2 stars) literally put me to sleep when I was reading. I started reading when sumer firs began on the plane ride to Washington D.C.. I read for at best half an hour and woke up on the runway in Maralyand. Although the messages of adultery and deception are still siginificant today, the plot is not modern and the character's actions and punishments are out dated.

On the other hand, The Great Gatsby (4.5 stars) is an entertaining and fast read. I love how Fitzgerald develops his characters and draws the reader to them. The reader identifies with the characters' emotions as Fitzgerald brilliantly "shows" instead of "tells." When I finished the book, I was suprised to wish it was longer!
